Many in communities throughout Canada volunteer their time to make a difference in the lives of others. They impact their community and by wearing their hearts on their sleeves, give compassionately and freely of their own time in service for the good of all.

National Volunteer Week from April 14 – 20 is a time to acknowledge those in our own area who make a difference, often quietly behind the scenes with humility in the spirit of giving from the heart.

In rural communities across the country the dedication, compassion, and hard work of many contribute to the safety, well-being, and support of others in a variety of ways.

From first responders to charitable organizations such as the Clearwater and District Food Bank, or long-standing members of groups like the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Search and Rescue, Rotary, The North Thompson Communities Foundation (for examples) and so many others, the wheels of volunteerism generate a continuous cycle of support that offers residents reassurance while providing unconditional care, information, and education, leading to a sustainable future.

With a wide variety of groups and organizations to explore in the Clearwater area, whether that be in a first response agency or a service organization that sponsors fundraising initiatives which provide for worthwhile community projects, every volunteer plays a vital role within the valley.

It’s that “roll up the sleeves” attitude and determination and selfless choice to give of time, physical labour, and unique expertise that truly “gets the job done” often as a legacy for future generations.

If you have an empathetic spirit and are looking for the opportunity to give back to our community reach out to learn more and take a moment to thank those who work so tirelessly in our valley to make life better for us now and in the future.
