The Thomspon Nicola Regional District (TNRD) board approved mailing a Notice of Intent for Temporary Use Permit (TUP) 73, affecting property at 5797 Clearwater Valley Road located in Upper Clearwater, in Electoral Area “A” (Wells Gray Country).

This TUP would allow a seasonal mobile food cart to operate on the property for another three years. The food cart has been operating since 2018, selling coffee and ice cream between April and September, and wishes to continue with a renewed TUP, according to a report presented to the TNRD board.

Following the Notice of Intent being mailed to properties within a 300-metre radius, the Board will consider the TUP at an upcoming regular meeting.

Planning Services recommended the approval because there have been no land-use conflicts or reports of negative impacts from surrounding neighbours in six seasons of operation; the North Thompson Official Community Plan (OCP) supports services geared towards tourism; and there are no concerns from Interior Health Authority (IHA) and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI).

The property is located in Electoral Area “A”, north of Clearwater, near the entrance to Wells Gray Provincial Park. The property is split by Clearwater Valley Road; the owners live on the west side of the road and the food cart is on the east.

The property is in the process of being subdivided, to create a separate lot east of Clearwater Valley Road.

According to the TNRD report, the owners would like to continue operating their mobile cart selling ice cream and coffee seasonally from April to the end of September.
