A few changes have happened while I was “on vacation” in the hospital. Dorothy Schulte and Jayne Hemming started a new group called the Vavenby Needle Arts Group. It meets at the community hall on Tuesdays from noon until 4 p.m. It is open to everyone but an adult must accompany children under 10. It is not a structured class and there is no cost. Participants bring projects from home to work on. It is a way to socialize with your neighbors and to share skills. Six people showed up on Feb. 15 - the first day. The group is looking for donations of supplies to help those who can’t afford them. For more information phone Schulte at 250-676-9270 or Hemming at 250-676-9651.
Exercise at Vavenby Community Hall
The exercise classes that were formerly held at the Vavenby Christian Church have been moved to the hall. Aerobics are held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30. Pilates will be at the hall starting in March and will be held at the same time as the exercise classes on Thursday mornings. Lower - moderate impact aerobics will be held at the hall on Mondays from 7 - 9 p.m. Judy Hartman leads these classes.
Valentine’s Day at the school
Students of Vavenby Primary had a busy Valentine’s Day. First they helped to prepare a healthy lunch with Mrs. Neathway. This consisted of a Mediterranean vegetable soup, fruit salad, and whole-wheat biscuits. Neathway said that the students are getting good at knowing what to do in a kitchen and even how to handle knives. Their kitchen skills have really improved, and the children are such a fun group to work with.
Next they made Valentine pouches for cards and delivered the ones that they had made or brought from home.
After their healthy lunch the students did Jump Rope for Heart, led by Erin Busse. They skipped for about 1 1/2 hours, learning new tricks, jumping with the big rope, and jumping in while the rope was turning. Busse enjoyed it.
